Dead Reckoning uses the "card crafting system" where players construct their deck not buy adding new cards or removing them but instead changing the cards themselves. It was only a single play but I'm kind of intrigued. If an expansion would come out that pits players in more direct competition, I would buy it in a heartbeat!Ĭontinuing with John D Claire, I finally had a chance to play Dead Reckoning. There is something about it that makes me go "let's give it another shot" even if at the end of each game I felt there is a little something missing that would make me go "I have to play this again". ![]() For most of the buildings, it's just build-score-forget and the push-your-luck element in the rolling of meeples doesn't come to affect that much. ![]() The presentation and general premise is great and a lot of fun, it's biggest issue is that it takes way longer to play than one intuitively assumes and for that length, there isn't enough depth in there. The basic game loop is: roll your meeples, get stuff for those that are not lying flat on their back, buy building plans, put blocks into those plans, and once constructed gain VP and new additional worker meeples. In Rolling Heights, players roll a growing selecting of meeples with various functions to build a large city scape of small building blocks. I've been playing this a lot lately and just pushed out my review. If you are interested in any of those games, wait for my full first impressions / review. As always, keep in mind that most of the following are very initial thoughts. In the meantime, here are a couple of games that hit my table recently. So while the research is done, I yet have to find new slots with my guests to do the interviews, which is quite frustrating to be honest because I was looking forward to those conversations soooo much Well, at least two seem like they might be happening this month.
